2. Why are there two competitions?
A. We know people have a wide range of weight to lose and wanted to try to encourage everyone to achieve their health and weight loss goals through some friendly competition and prizes. For someone who has only 10% of their body weight to lose, compared to maybe someone who has upwards of 20% or more, creating a fair competition would be more difficult, so we tried to capture both sets of individuals.
3. I am not sure which competition I should enter.
A. In order to enter the Biggest Loser Competition, you must have at least 15% of your body weight to lose, meaning if you were to lose 15% of your current weight you would have to fall within or above the healthy weight range on the BMI chart. If losing 20% of your body weight would cause you to follow below the healthy weight range, you are not eligible for this competition. For reference, we will be using the BMI chart from the American Cancer Society’s website. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/diet-physical-activity/body-weight-and-cancer-risk/adult-bmi.html
4. I’d like to enter the 10% Takedown competition, but I am not sure I qualify. I just have a little weight to lose.
A. In order to enter the 10% Takedown competition, you must have at least 10% of your weight to lose, meaning if you were to lose 10% of your current weight you would have to fall within the healthy weight range on the BMI chart. If losing 10% of your weight would cause you to drop BELOW the healthy weight range, unfortunately you are not eligible for the competition. For reference, we will be using the BMI chart from the American Cancer Society’s website. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/diet-physical-activity/body-weight-and-cancer-risk/adult-bmi.html
5. Can I enter both competitions?
A. If you qualify for the Biggest Loser Competition, then yes, you are automatically entered into the 10% Takedown competition as well. If you are one of the top three winners for the Biggest Loser, however, your name will not be added to the drawing for the 10% Takedown Competition.
6. What if I sign up for the 10% Takedown and end up losing more than 15% of my body weight.? Do I automatically become eligible for the Biggest Loser prize as well?
A. No. The 10% Takedown requires a simple weigh-in, whereas the Biggest Loser requires a full body scan. If you have at least 15% of your body weight to lose, it is highly recommended you sign up for the Biggest Loser competition.
7. What if I am not available to weigh-in when the final weigh-in dates are announced?
A. You must weigh-in during the Nov 15 – 19 dates. If you are out of town and absolutely unable to weigh-in during that time, please contact us and we can make special arrangements for you to weigh-in the week before. There will be no weigh-ins after Nov 19th. No exceptions. You must do a weigh-in and/or body scan at the same location you initially weighed-in or scanned at to be eligible for a prize.
8. What can I expect when I come to weigh-in?
A. You will need to bring your driver’s license with your home address. Harrison County residents and those in surrounding areas are eligible to participate in the competition. You will sign a waiver and have your weight and height taken and recorded along with your contact information. If you are participating in the Biggest Loser competition, you will have a body scan taken which will also record your weight.
9. What is a body scan?
A. It’s a 3D scan to track hundreds of measurements. Provides automatic posture, body weight, body fat, muscle mass and balance assessments. It will show you changes in your body that a scale alone could never provide, providing you a more complete picture. You do not have to remove your clothing for the body scan, but we do recommend you wear minimal, snug fitting clothing for the most accurate scan possible.
10. I want to participate in the Biggest Loser competition, but don’t want to do the body scan, can I just weigh-in instead?
A. If you want to participate in the Biggest Loser competition you must do the body scan at the beginning and end of the competition. You’ll receive a wealth of information and we think you’ll love seeing your transformation this way! If you still don’t want to do it, you’re welcome to enter the 10% Takedown competition instead.
11. I only qualify for the 10% Takedown, but I’d love to do the body scan, can I do that instead of the weigh-in?
A. We understand, we think the body scan is so cool too! However, Enliven Chiropractic has so generously donated the use of their equipment to us and are only prepared to take the participants from the Biggest Loser competition. If you are still interested in the body scan, you can call them to talk about making an appointment to get one done on your own, separate from the competition. (You would still need to weigh in at WV Fitness or ProCare Pharmacy to participate in the 10% Takedown.)
12. Who will see my weight?
A. Only the person weighing you in and a few other administrative members of Healthy Harrison will see your weight. However, if you are one of the Top 3 Male or Female winners of the Biggest Loser, we will reveal your starting and finishing weight at the awards ceremony.
13. What kind of support can I expect throughout the competition?
A. We encourage everyone to download the Healthy Harrison app. The app will provide a multitude of resources in the areas of Mind, Move and Eat. We also encourage you to use the app to help establish your micro goals and track these daily goals to help with accountability. In addition, we will open a private Facebook group – be on the lookout for an email about joining the group. If you don’t receive an email by July 27th, please message us (see contact info below). We highly encourage you to join this group. This will be a source of inspiration, encouragement, mini-challenges and more! It will serve as a support system among your fellow competition participants and help keep you up-to-date with information on the competition.
While this program – the competition, the app and the Facebook group is totally free, unfortunately we do not have the resources to offer free one-on-one coaching. If that is something you feel like you need to be successful, we can help point you in the right direction with referrals to additional resources. Simply reach out to one of the program leads and they’ll make recommendations based on what you’re looking for (nutrition, personal training, etc.)
While we hope to provide you with some great tools and resources, it is important to remember that ultimately only YOU are in charge of your health and weight loss journey!
